The Gut Loving Podcast is a podcast all about IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and the low FODMAP diet – a relatively new approach to effectively managing IBS symptoms.
The podcast is hosted by myself and Huelya Akyuez, a patient who has lived with IBS for over 20 years.
We started the podcast with the aim of helping people with IBS get clear on the facts about their condition, and what they can do to manage their symptoms. I was frustrated to hear time and time again from IBS patients who had been told to go gluten free or cut out dairy with no explanation, support or reasoning, and I decided we could do better!
If you know someone with IBS, or would like to learn more yourself, we’d love you to join us and take a listen. And, if you do like the show, we’d really appreciate you rating and reviewing, as it really helps people to find us.
Highly recommend! So, I was diagnosed with IBS about 16 years ago via colonoscopy. Cut out some foods, especially gluten, and it helped, but recent severe relapse, and pain, and another colonoscopy concluded bowel elongation, lots of inflammation and IBS is back in full force. Stumbled on these awesome ladies when looking for subject specific podcasts. Love the delivery and the subjects covered so far. Am going to binge the rest of what’s posted today, and book to see a dietitian. Keep it coming!
You guys – THANK YOU!! I was diagnosed with IBS 10 years ago but with pretty much no support from the NHS – mainly because as I’ve found out through this podcast, the GP isn’t result well equipped to be able to support me either. The last 2 years have been hell for me with my IBS and I’ve been slowly figuring out my triggers (but still with so many unknown) and I have been travelling around the world for the last few months and have been in a pretty much constant state of bloat/ cramps / pain which has caused me to take this more seriously when I get home… I came across Laura through a recommendation from Martin McDonald, which is where I then found this podcast. It is so relatable and listening to these i can feel a weight being lifted and I for once am being given the tools to accept and learn about my condition. I’m really excited to be home in April and trying the Happy Gut Guide/ FODMAP diet to manage my condition long term. Thank you for opening up this topic like I’ve never heard before – I’ve been sharing it with my friends who also have IBS.
Getting diagnosed with IBS has been a rollercoaster of emotions and struggling through the elimination phase, dealing with the ‘oh she’s a fussy eater’ looks when eating out, low mood, thinking I’m making it up, thoughts of giving up with the plan and more. This podcast has been like a support group and is massively helping me through. I’m so grateful for all the specialist healthcare individuals putting their efforts into helping with the management of IBS and increasing the awareness of it. Thank you.
After bouncing about amongst GPs and vague suggestions of avoiding bread, a friend of a friend recommended the low FODMAP diet. It took me over a year to take the plunge but listening to this podcast has made everything so much clearer and easier to understand. I’m now three days in and not hungry at all. I’ve even discovered I like porridge! Thank you so much ladies and I look forward to your next episode.
